The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) announced it will conduct its International Roadcheck in the USA, Canada, and Mexico from the 17th through the 19th of May 2022.

Many roadside inspections have led to out-of-service (OOS) orders in past years. Those inspection shortcomings, usually of tires, brakes, or lights, delay freight delivery until the shortcomings are corrected, or the cargo is transferred to another vehicle.

These types of delays for your fleet could be detrimental to your reputation and even cause lost orders from your usual shipping partners.

The best method to ensure fewer shortcomings is to start preparing now. Unfortunately, some fleets won’t even send trucks out during that period because they know their preventive maintenance (PM) program is weak.

When you use the Ultimate Fleet Repairs (UFR) mechanics to perform your PM, you can be sure what can be found will be found and corrected.

What Is the Primary Focus of This Year’s Roadchecks?

The 72-hour roadside inspection blitz will concentrate on wheel-ends for commercial motor vehicles at weigh stations, roving points, and temporary roadside inspection sites set up across three countries.

Fleet vehicles with heavy cargo loads are supported by wheel ends and their components to maintain control and stability. Plus, these components are critical to the braking and stopping of these massive vehicles.

Twenty-five percent of historical OOS order violations involved wheel-end components found during these road checks. While compiling the records from the previous inspection, the CVSA recognized the wheel end component as a high-ranking violation. They put these components within their top ten motorcoaches and large trucks failures.

When wheel-end component violations are identified during routine inspections, the vehicle will likely be placed in an OOS condition until corrected.

“We want every vehicle on our roadways to be in proper working order for the safety of the driver operating that vehicle and everyone traveling on our roadways.”—CPT John Broers, CVSA President.

UFR Has the Same Goal—To Keep Your Fleet Vehicles Rolling Defect-Free

When you bring your fleet vehicles into UFR for PM during the month of April and early May, we will check, lubricate or repair wheel-end components to ensure your vehicle meets or exceeds the North American Standards for Level I & V Inspections.

Being prepared for these International Roadchecks by the CVSA is the best method to ensure your vehicles make their scheduled deliveries on time.
